Mountain Designs GeoQuest 2010 By: Steve Cooper

It may not be everyones' cup of tea but for 57 teams of 4 people plus support crew that's what Mountain Designs GeoQuest is about this year.

Port Macquarie will play host to Australia’s premiere Adventure Race, this year is #9 and from the buzz so far competitors are already looking towards #10.

But lets get on with this year first, Teams from across Australia, NZ and Japan will battle it out on the NSW mid north coast around the Port Macquarie coastal strip and hinterland, typically a clover leaf course racing in and out of a central hub the event has grown into a generally linear course style event where support crews shuttle equipment to and from the various transition areas for their teams.

GeoQuest has also evolved into 2 races, a 24hr and a 48hr, Teams of 4 get to choose well in advance which option they are up for, they wont know the course or the order of the disciplines, they do find out what disciplines are involved. This year there will also be some ropework overseen by organizers and leaders in the field in PortMacquarie, canyoning feature as an option looking at the event details, competitors will even get a chance to vote at one TA.

Over past years the event has attracted some if not all of the countries top adventure racers, and has certainly been something of a stepping stone for teams to bigger events such as XPD and some overseas races.

The event this year kicks off at 8am on the 21st of August at Sundowner Breakwall Tourist Park at Port Macquarie. For more details click here.
